Despite my ranting and raving about this game the other day, I am still very excited to play it. Now I have my chance and so do you! The official open beta for FFXIV will be starting August 31 (US) and September 1 (Global)! Thats a full 3 weeks I can play the game before I probably have to start over entirely and lose all my progress. Betas are a double-edged sword, you see. The whole purpose of the open beta is to see if there are any minor last minute changes that should be made before the game releases, or patched shortly thereafter. Also, the areas available in a beta are limited, so you’re not getting the FULL experience. This may give you a bad impression of the game if you don’t like those areas, you get bored, you can’t progress fast enough, etc. Also, betas are flawed. Thats the point of them. So you see, playing the game early is not necessarily a great idea. Sure, you may decide that you don’t like the user interface, the magic system, the combat speed, whatever, and then decide you don’t WANT the game at launch. Then you’ve saved yourself some money. Honestly, I’m so blinded by enthusiasm that I’m not sure I care. Granted, there are some things that are unforgivable about whats happening in the beta right now, but who knows? Maybe it won’t be there at launch. God, I hope not.
Anyway, here’s the newest (and probably last) trailer for FFXIV Online. Its pretty.
